From The W Stylist ; “Your wedding day will be filled with moments you hope to be captured as if they were a painting. This inspiration piece was inspired by just that, the slowness and meaningful moments that take place throughout your wedding day and in particular the intimacy between yourself and your family.

In the UK there is a big emphasis and pride in the Sunday meal as well as using local produce and bringing together the family in a humble and simple manner. It’s just about a homemade meal and being with your loved ones. This meal usually means creating something filling, hearty and definitely warming. British food and meals along with our harvest is best in the autumn. With the luscious countryside playing home to some of the most delicious ingredients, British meals are filled to the brim with root vegetables, roasted potatoes and often can infuse the delicacy of our neighboring European flavours. Often these recipes are passed down through families and cooked again and again at these Sunday meals or special occasions. You’ll often hear stories of “Mother’s cookbook” and “Mum’s secret ingredients” – this goes without saying, the making of a meal is something enjoyable and something we learn from our elders. For the particular meals prepared in this story were adapted from Ottolenghi’s Plenty recipe book, Emma Knowles of the Gourmet Traveller, Dolly and Oatmeal and Heinstirred.

Take purpose in intertwining your new family within your wedding plans by adding in a small dinner where you all make the meal together. It’ll create moments of laughter and lightness in a time when typically things can be a little tense in the lead up. You can see these moments nurtured and delighted in our story as we brought to life in an traditional 16th Century setting with the Mother and her Daughter-in-law to be. It is a relationship of honesty, simplicity and intimate understanding.

Sometimes it truly is the every day basic tasks that allow for such freedom and calmness together for two souls. Bring them into the celebrations as they bring you into their family.  There are also other tasks you can take part in to further grow this relationship such as painting beautiful favours or foraging locally for flowers or homegrown fruit to use at the dinner reception. All of which you can revel in together knowing you have taken the time to be with your In-laws to be as well as bringing an personal level of detail to your wedding design.

We all knows words have stood the test of time, there are certain pieces of writing which mean the world to some of us and teach us so much about love and joy. Think about how you can use this in bringing your family into your wedding day, whether it’s using a beautiful piece of literature or poetry that your Mother-in-law loves; this brings them more intimately into the ceremony.

In our particular story, women are our champions and for centuries they have been in art and history. We took inspiration from the artist Vermeer, who more often than not, used woman in movement as his inspiration in simple performing daily tasks. His eye always drawn to the detail of her clothing, her actions and her emotion.

Our woman and champion of this story is the Mother. She is taking the time to dress her daughter-in-law to be, she is preparing the ingredients with her, she is the one dressing the table with foraged florals for the wedding guests and couple to enjoy and celebrate at after the ceremony. She truly is the champion of this couple’s relationship and you can feel the excitement and anticipation.

With this we intertwined the emotional words of Lang Leav’s “Soul Mates” to set the tone and emotion of this intimate celebration. The Mother reads these words to the beloved couple during their ceremony and even helps the writing the rest of their vows to one another in the tranquil and ancient setting. The poetry words of Lang Leav represents the couples personal love story along side by being spoken by the Mother subtly shows her bringing them both together closer and being an integral part of their own love story by having such an important role to play during the ceremony.

Finding a short and emotional piece that represents your relationship can be used during your ceremony, in your invitation suite and can then become a memento for your own home. Consider finding unique pieces such as songs, excerpts from your favourite book or even consider writing your own piece.”

Bylaugh Hall is a beautiful relic, a crumbling Stately Home full of intrigue and history. Embracing the time worn beauty, we styled and enjoyed three dinners there together. Communal eating and sharing together being a huge part of the workshop ethos; culminating in a feast under the boughs of an ancient tree in the grounds. I also captured bridal portraits showcasing MIRA ZWILLINGER couture, selected for it's delicate floral aspects and breezy summertime nature that complimented the seasonal florals created by the florists

When I do a bridal fashion story, I always aim to tell stories that express the feeling behind the designs themselves, making strong compositions in uniquely beautiful and fascinating locations. In this case, the designs were a blend of intimate delicacy and raw feminine strength; and the location was an abandoned villa under a heavy Italian sun. The designs were by contemporary, luxury designers who aren’t afraid to be bold and ambitious with their creations.

The name “Chiaroscuro” refers to the artistic practice of “light and shade”.

I wanted to make this work to showcase not only the beautiful gowns but also the incredible lighting that exists in these crumbling corners of Italy. The name “Chiaroscuro” refers to the artistic practice of “light and shade”. My aim was to create a strong and modern take on bridal fashion, using geometric direct light and juxtaposing it with the ancient environment that the villa presented. As photographers, we are sometimes afraid of trying new lighting techniques but working with film and direct hard light was something I’ve wanted to do for a while. Doing so pushed me out of my comfort zone and expanded my vision. The rooms in the villa held such energy from times gone by that it energized me, and I was able to capture the whole shoot in less that an hour!

Johann and Emily contacted us earlier this year to commission us to make photographs for them during their stay in Florence, Italy while they celebrated their second wedding anniversary. From the very early stages, when we started to discuss attire and locations for the shoot, it was clear that we were headed on a beautiful journey with a style concious couple.

We started the day in one of the small handful of rooms at the luxurious Il Salviatino, nestled into hills surrounding Florence with stunning views over the Tuscan capital. The intimate bedroom and elegant details of the hotel, set a calm and romantic scene for the day ahead. After a slow and peaceful morning, Johann and Emily took a short drive to ‘Da Florence,’ a street side restaurant serving chic and delicate Italian dishes before heading home to change for a date that evening which took in the globally renowned Uzzifi Gallery. This made for a perfect couple of hours out of the intense afternoon Tuscan sun. Packed to the rafters with masterpiece upon masterpiece, the building itself is an extravagant feast for the eyes around every pillar, arch and staircase.

A few steps in any direction out of the hustle of this dynamic city, lie little pockets of peace and romance. As the light turned golden with the evening, we enjoyed some contemplative moments in several of these little enchanting back streets and time worn piazzas. The remainder of the day was spent wandering the stone cobbled streets surrounding the Duomo Cathedral, undoubtedly the most iconic building in Tuscany.

This inspirational piece set within the stately home estate of Port Eliot in Cornwall, England, focuses on bringing a sense of calm and embracing mindful moments on your wedding day. Your wedding day will likely be one of the most emotionally heightened days of your life and the pressure that comes with such a profound day can leave many brides feeling emotionally vulnerable; particularly in the hours leading up to the ceremony itself when this can be most keenly felt. We wanted to tell a tale that draws on Far Eastern ideas of meditation, mindfulness and bringing a sense of well-being to the morning of your wedding and indeed the rest of your wedding day. Port Eliot, where we told this story, has been lived in for over 1000 years and is believed to be the oldest continually inhabited dwelling in the United Kingdom. The earliest written reference to this home is from the 5th century AD, Augustinian monks were there from the year 937, while the earliest remaining evidence of a dwelling on the site is a 1500-year-old glazed tiled floor, dating from the late Iron Age. In the 18th century, Sir John Sloane remodelled the Grade I-listed priory and house and landscape gardener Humphrey Repton created the gardens and park. Starting with this tranquil and beautiful safe haven of a setting, we focused on the Far Eastern art and elements found within the home. Port Eliot is full of the accumulated treasures of its long history with both the architectural details and the home’s antiquities providing us with our palette of springtime oriental colours complimented with touches of gold. We focused on a luxurious and chic bridal style, drawing on materials and textures that felt classical and opulent whilst remaining bohemian, modern and relevant. Working predominantly with the five senses we explore ideas that aim to make this day, your wedding day, one of the most memorable and enjoyable days in your life, allowing you to be as present and relaxed as possible.

Stephanie & Tony traveled from California to England for their couple’s portrait session. We worked with a wintery palette on what turned our to be a really atmospheric and misty day. The shoot was split into three parts, with the first being a gentle suggestion at an engagement session.  For this part of the shoot the couple wore Burberry, which is a classic English heritage brand.

The second part of the shoot was of them wearing wedding attire.  It was luxurious, with the bride in a bespoke Carol Hannah gown and the groom in black tie. We finished the shoot and the day with them enjoying a meal in front of the fire.  Stephanie wore a reception dress that was chosen to compliment the stunning antique Japanese wallpaper within the house.
